Sitka Spruce saplings (small) x 50, bare-rooted. Picea sitchensis *NO VAT*

Here is a batch of 50 x Sitka Spruce seedlings ranging from 4 inches to 8 inches in height, odd one to 10 ins. None are more than two years old.

These are wild sown seedlings/saplings from a commercial forestry plantation gradually being felled and replaced with mixed deciduous woodland.

These plants will in time make fine stand alone trees or, they could all be planted in a small block or mixed in with other tree species for diversity. They can also be grown in large pots/containers. Remember, large blocks of conifers of all species are not good for wildlife diversity when they exclude light from the woodland floor. They are not suitable for hedges as they do not stand clipping though they can make a fine screen and can be topped at a desired height

Sitka Spruce is an important fast growing forestry tree species with a high strength to weight ratio, making it ideal for some construction and it is a prized wood for musical instruments.

Please note, these are not suitable for gardens if the intention is to let them grow large. Sitka Spruce is possibly the 3rd tallest conifer species in the world, attaining in time, 300ft when mature. Also, never plant them where they might topple on homes etc or interfere with underground/overhead services.

They thrive at higher altitudes, in high rainfall areas and are suitable for coastal planting being saline tolerant, but will grow almost anywhere in the UK. The vast majority of conifer plantations across Britain especially in the uplands are Sitka Spruce.

Because of their small size, these plants will need to be treated with a bit of extra planting tlc.

They’ll make a good planting/growing project for someone out there.

Please attend to the plants asap upon arrival. The sooner they are settled in soil, the better.
